Microsoft heads to the clouds
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008For those of you who haven’t heard of cloud computing before, wikipedia has a good write-up that talks about it in more detail. Cloud computing takes applications and provides them as a web based service (think Gmail for email, Google Docs for word processing, etc.). While some foresee Cloud Computing to be the only future for computing, others aren’t so quick to jump on board. One of the main disadvantages to Cloud Computing is that it requires you to give up personal ownership and control over your own data. You release your data to a third party who will often charge you a monthly fee to be able to continue using that data. On the other side, the biggest advantage to cloud computing is ease of use. The company you pay a monthly fee to will maintain the applications and data and you will not have to worry about the technology side of data management.
Now, Microsoft has announced it will soon release a cloud computing Operating System of it’s own. Read more:
